FTC disclosure

Affiliate Disclosure

Required by the FTC, and worth writing properly rather than as a sentence in small print.

The short version

Camp & Chock earns commission when you buy through links on this site. It costs you nothing extra — the retailer pays us a percentage of a sale you were making anyway — and it is how the site is paid for. There is no subscription, no paywall and no advertising.

The Amazon Associates statement

Camp & Chock is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates. Product availability, specifications and prices on Amazon are set by Amazon and its sellers, not by us, and can change at any time.

Which programs we are in

Currently one, and only one:

  • Amazon — every product link on this site goes here.

We are not currently members of any other affiliate network or brand-direct program. Where we mention a manufacturer — linking to their specification sheet in a sources list, for example — we earn nothing from it, and those links are ordinary outbound links rather than affiliate links.

If that changes, this page changes with it. We will not quietly start earning from a merchant without listing them here.

What a commission does not change

This is the part that actually matters, and the part you should hold us to:

  • It does not decide the order of a list. Position one goes to whatever suits the most common first-season situation. Amazon pays a percentage, so a more expensive pick would pay us more — and our top picks are routinely the cheap option. That is the easiest way to check this claim rather than take our word for it.
  • It does not buy a place on a list. Nobody pays for inclusion, position or a favorable mention, and there are no sponsored posts on this site.
  • It does not soften the criticism. Every product card has a “real tradeoff” section, including the top pick, and several pages tell you to skip a category entirely for a year.
  • It does not make us claim to have tested anything. See how we choose — we do not run a test lab and do not pretend otherwise.

How our links work, technically

Every product link on this site points at a path on our own domain (/go/...) which then redirects you to the retailer. Two reasons, both practical: it means a product can be moved to a different retailer by changing one line of configuration instead of editing dozens of pages, and it means we can see which recommendations people find useful.

Every one of those links carries rel="sponsored nofollow noopener", which is what Google asks publishers to use for commercial links, and opens in a new tab. Buy buttons are also marked #ad at the point of the click, not only here.

Prices

We publish no prices anywhere on this site. Prices move constantly, and a figure typed into a page is misleading within weeks. Every button reads “Check price on Amazon” and takes you to the live listing, where the number you see is the number you pay.

This is also an Amazon program requirement — Associates may not display stale prices — but we would do it anyway. It is the only honest option.

Product photographs

The images on this site are licensed stock photographs of the category, not photographs of the individual products we recommend, and not photographs taken by us of units we own. That is noted under every comparison table as well as here, so nobody concludes we have handled something we have not.
