Privacy Policy

The short version

Camp & Chock is a publication, not a store. We have no user accounts, no logins and no shopping cart, so there is very little about you for us to hold. We collect two things: aggregate analytics about how pages are used, and whatever you type into the contact form if you choose to send it.

What we collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are read and which recommendations people find useful. This records things like the pages visited, approximate location derived from IP address, device and browser type, referring site, and clicks on outbound product links.

It is used in aggregate. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors, and we do not combine analytics data with anything you send us through the contact form. Google Analytics sets its own cookies and processes this data as a provider — their privacy policy governs what they do with it.

The contact form

If you write to us we receive your name, email address, and your message, along with a subject line if you give one. We use it to reply to you and, where the message is a correction, to fix the site. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not sell, rent or share it with anyone.

The form includes two anti-spam measures worth being transparent about: a hidden field that only automated scripts fill in, and a timestamp recording when the page loaded so we can discard submissions completed in milliseconds. Neither tracks you, and neither is retained after the submission is processed. We also apply a per-address submission limit.

Affiliate links

Product links on this site pass through a redirect on our own domain before reaching the retailer. When you arrive at Amazon through one of those links, Amazon sets a cookie that lets them attribute a purchase to us. That happens on Amazon’s side under their privacy notice, and we never see what you bought, what you paid, or your Amazon account details — only aggregate commission totals. What we do not collect

• No accounts, passwords or user profiles — there is nothing to sign up for.
• No payment information. We never handle a transaction; all purchases happen on the retailer’s site.
• No newsletter list at the time of writing. If we start one it will be explicit opt-in, and this page will say so.
• No advertising networks, retargeting pixels or third-party ad cookies.
• No data knowingly collected from children under 13.

Cookies

The site itself sets no cookies of its own for tracking. Google Analytics sets cookies as described above, and Amazon sets one when you follow a product link to their site. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics entirely using their browser add-on. Nothing on this site requires cookies to read.

How long we keep things

Contact form messages are kept as long as they are useful for replying and for tracking a correction, then deleted. Analytics data is retained according to the Google Analytics retention setting on the property.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, or to object to its processing. In practice, for this site that almost always means a contact form message, and we will delete it on request.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Form submissions are transmitted encrypted and delivered to an email inbox rather than stored in a database on the site. No system is perfectly secure, so please do not send anything sensitive — financial details, identification documents — through the contact form. We will never ask you for any of that.

Links to other sites

When you follow a link to Amazon, a manufacturer, or any other site, you are subject to their privacy practices rather than ours. We have no control over what they collect.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top of the page changes and the change is described here. We will not reduce your rights under this policy without saying so plainly.
